Rehabilation of Darogawala Road
The rehabilitation of Darogawala Road to Mehmood Booti Bund Road costing Rs 196 million will start during the next month, The Nation learnt here on Tuesday.
The CDGL is learnt to have sponsored the project under the Large Cities Package and it would take 2 years to complete the project.
Sources said the project of rehabilitation of the road remained in doldrums for two months after its formal approval, but following the availability of funds, the project will commence in April.
However, sources said the 2.5 kilometre road was constructed in 1988 and had reportedly outlived its designated life. According to the special survey conducted during April 2007, the average daily traffic on this road was recorded around 13,737 vehicles.
The condition of road was extremely dilapidated and was deteriorating daily, sources said.
“A number of 10-wheelers trucks and heavy axle road vehicles plying on the road day and night towards the Dry Port HAD further aggravated the situation,” sources added.
Sources informed that the project was examined during the pre-PDWP meeting held under the chairmanship of member (1) P&D Board, wherein WASA Managing Director Muhammad Iftikhar had explained the drainage component.
During the meeting, he also informed that the provision of shifting of water supply and drainage component made in the PC-1 were sufficient and needed rationalisation, sources informed.
He pointed out that a trunk sewer was yet to be laid along this road for the ultimate disposal of sewage of the areas around canal bank, sources said.
The meeting was informed that the project cost had increased to Rs 196 million as against the previous cost Rs 170 million.
“The increase in the cost from Rs 12 million was on account of the cost of shifting of WASA services as indicated by WASA and the lump sum provision for shifting of SNGPL and PTCL services which stood at Rs 7 million. WASA also reported that the estimated cost of the trunk sewer project would be Rs 7 million,” Sources added.
The road length had been decreased by 0.35 kilometre adjusting the portion to be covered under Ring Road Project, sources concluded.
