CDA Gets Nod for Landfill Construction
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and Ministry of Environment have approved the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the construction of sanitary landfill in capital.
A CDA press release on Friday said the project was launched under self-financing scheme worth Rs 1 billion to extend better environmental conditions and enhance pubic health standards in the city by using proper and scientific method for disposal of more than 500 metric tons of municipal solid waste being generated daily.
In 2004 ECNEC okayed the project and the EIA was approved after public hearing on the environmental and other social issues. The proposed landfill would be constructed and operated as per US-EPA standard at 100 acre of acquired land by the CDA in Kuri village, Zone IV of capital.
The estimated life of landfill is more than 30 years with the provision of further expansion.
